Simplicity…

In our complicated world, sometimes it’s hard to remember that something simple can be wonderful! On our recent travels, this caught my eye and made me stop and stare. So beautiful.  So inspiring.

Space to walk…Space to think…

“One of the functions of landscape is to correspond to, nurture, and provoke exploration of the landscape of the imagination. Space to walk is also space to think, and I think that’s one thing landscapes give us: places to think longer, more uninterrupted thoughts or thoughts to a rhythm other than the staccato of navigating the city.”
Rebecca Solnit, Storming the Gates of Paradise: Landscapes for Politics

A BUSY JANUARY

Usually January is a pretty laid-back month that doesn’t have too much going on as far as landscape design and landscape construction.  However, this year is proving to be different. We had the Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence Ceremony on January 10. From our three entries in the Landscape Construction categories; we took home three awards! One was for the Carter residence; a modern backyard that is built for entertaining and privacy. The second one was for the Murray residence; a totally dialed backyard with a pool and also made for entertaining.  The third award we received was for the Ruttan residence; a corner lot which shows how much can be done in limited spaces.  Fourteen members of D.A Gracey & Associates were on hand at the award ceremony to accept our awards.

This January is also a little different in that we have crews working;  building a large (and long) stone wall on our ongoing Aurora project. The guys are definitely cheerful about this warm weather we are having.

And we have changes going on in the office as well. We would like to welcome Sue Montgomery;  an experienced landscape architect who is going to be involved in project management and marketing.  As well we welcome Courtney Cotter, a landscape architectural intern.  Courtney will be in the office and in the field, developing drawings, talking to clients, getting permits and many other things.  Long-time staff member ‘Hold Down the Fort’ Shirley is going to take a bit more time for herself with all this additional help.
